Classification of surface water quality

This article deals with new Czech Standard 75 7221 Water quality – Classification of surface water quality [1] and replaces the previous 19 years old standard [2]. It was necessary to take into account actual demands of the surface water protection from two points of view: pollution indicator selection and current environmental quality standards. The range of pollution indicators and limit values of water classification were revised.

Development of selected radionuclides in surface water in the vicinity of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant in the period 1990–2016

The paper presents results and interpretation of long-term monitoring of occurrence and behaviour of radioisotopes 3H, 90Sr and 137Cs in surface water in the vicinity of the Temelín Nuclear Power Plant. 3H, 90Sr and 137Cs originate predominantly from residual contamination due to atmospheric nuclear weapons tests and the Chernobyl disaster in the last century.

Drainage and sewage treatment in Moldova – current state and perspectives

The article provides basic information on the current state of drainage and sewage treatment in Moldova. These data are a summary of survey findings from individual localities (usually cities over 10 000 inhabitants) carried out within the framework of the Czech Republic’s foreign development cooperation project.

Dams and aquatic invertebrates

The construction of water dams fundamentally changes nature and landscape not only in the flooded areas but also out of them, including all structures and links and leading to habitat loss. Three characteristically different South Moravian water reservoirs – the Vranov Dam, the Brno Dam and system of water reservoirs of Nové Mlýny have been studied in the project “Submerged cultural and natural heritage of South Moravia” (DF13P01OVV012) supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic.

Prehistoric and medieval settlements in the area of three contemporary South Moravian Dams

All three flooded areas lied in a different natural environment that shaped their fates. Archaeological sources have irreplaceable significance for understanding the changes in settlements. If no archaeological research was carried out before the construction of the Vranov Dam and the Brno Dam and we only depend on the findings from the surroundings, so before the construction of the dam on Dyje, the flooded area was systematically and archeologically investigated.

Possibilities of extrapolation of digital terrain model raster DMR 5G

Airborne laser imaging (LiDAR) has been carried out throughout the Czech Republic, enabling the creation of raster of digital model of terrain. This material is widely used in various fields. From the point of view of hydrology demands, however, the shortcoming of this technology resides in the absence of accurate/complete channel topography due to the absorption of the near-infrared laser beams by water.

Damping of artificial wetlands
