Past tests of nuclear weapons in the atmosphere, nuclear energy facilities and tritium of natural origin are main sources of tritium in the environment. Thanks to its presence in environment and its favourable properties, tritium is used as a radiotracer.
Mathematical models have been used in hydrology for decision making support for many years. They allow the realization of virtual experiments that can be done empirically either very difficult or not at all. The SWAT model, developed in the US, has gained world wide popularity but its application in the Czech Republic is quite rare yet.
The use of automatic samplers for detailed monitoring of substance concentrations and balance is nowadays an important part of special monitoring of surface waters. The average results of routine monitoring (consisting of point samples) are often underestimated over the real situation.
Changes in chemistry and biology of the mesotrophic water reservoir after an extraordinary level decrease
Opatovice Water Reservoir is an important source of drinking water for the district town of Vyškov in South Moravia, northeast of Brno. After a partial decrease in the level in 2012 and after a significant reduction in 2017 there were marked changes in the chemistry and in the biology of the tank.
Significant adverse effects of measures for the use of heavily influenced water bodies: experiences and examples from abroad
In April 2018, an international workshop was held in Brussels to assess the significance of adverse impacts of planned measures for use or wider environment of heavily modified and artificial water bodies. This issue is related to the implementation of the Water Framework Directive 2000/60/EC and the harmonization of the level of good ecological potential among EU Member States.
