Ing. Tomáš Mičaník graduated from the Pardubice University, Faculty of Chemical Technology, Institute of Chemistry and Technology of Macromolecular Materials. Accepting the position of lab technician (organic trace analysis) and investigator in various research projects, he joined T. G. Masaryk Water Research Institute, public research institution, Ostrava Branch, Laboratory of Hydrochemistry. He has been holding the position of Head of Water Quality Protection Department since 1997 focusing on the issues of dangerous substances in hydrosphere, as well as on methodology and legislation activities for water policy-making. During 2003–2008, he was engaged as a member of working groups at the International Commission for the Protection of the Odra River against Pollution with its seat in Wroclaw (Monitoring – Physically-Chemical Aspects, River Basin Management Plan). His current function is an investigator of research projects aimed at the determination and evaluation of emerging pollutant emissions into the aquatic environment. Furthermore, he participates in the preparation of methodologies for water status evaluation, as well as of implementing legislation and norms.
