Radegast brewery, part of\u00a0Plze\u0148sk\u00fd Prazdroj, has started a\u00a0campaign for water. By 2030, it will retain\u00a0more water in\u00a0the\u00a0Czech landscape than it consumes.<\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

Radegast is one of\u00a0the\u00a0breweries with the\u00a0lowest water consumption in\u00a0the\u00a0world. With 2.3 hectolitres of\u00a0water per hectolitre of\u00a0beer, it ranks among the\u00a0absolute world leaders. Water consumption includes water for the\u00a0complete production of\u00a0beer, sanitation of\u00a0equipment, cleaning in\u00a0the\u00a0brewery, water in\u00a0the\u00a0toilets, etc. The\u00a0No\u0161ovice brewery has achieved this success through technological innovations that have reduced the\u00a0brewery\u2019s\u00a0water consumption by 44 % over the\u00a0last 15 years. With such low consumption, however, finding further savings is not easy.<\/p>\n

For this reason, Radegast focuses on projects that promote water retention in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape. As part of\u00a0these, since 2015, Radegast has invested more than CZK 8 million in\u00a0the\u00a0construction and restoration of\u00a0water features such as pools and wetlands, including the\u00a0brewery\u2019s\u00a0ponds in\u00a0close proximity to the\u00a0brewery, which help to drain\u00a0rainwater from its premises. All projects are carried out by the\u00a0brewery in\u00a0collaboration with experts in\u00a0the\u00a0field.<\/p>\n

New pools around the\u00a0country<\/h3>\n

Cooperation with Forests of\u00a0the\u00a0Czech Republic and support for the\u00a0development of\u00a0new pools are the\u00a0key steps Radegast is taking to achieve its goal. In\u00a02023, the\u00a0brewery and Forests of\u00a0the\u00a0Czech Republic built 29 retention pools and added 30\u00a0more across the\u00a0country in\u00a02024. The\u00a0common goal is to improve the\u00a0water regime in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape and promote biodiversity. The\u00a0pools will not only retain\u00a0water in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape but also create a\u00a0habitat for aquatic plants and animals.<\/p>\n

Radegast Brewery\u2019s\u00a0cooperation with Forests of\u00a0the\u00a0Czech Republic was established in\u00a02023. Radegast has long been committed to minimising water consumption at the\u00a0brewery, while supporting a\u00a0number of\u00a0projects contributing to water retention in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape. Forests of\u00a0the\u00a0Czech Republic, which has its own \u201cGiving Water Back to the\u00a0Forest\u201d programme, welcomes any project supporting the\u00a0adaptation of\u00a0forests to climate change. Thus, they view cooperation with Radegast positively as it has developed naturally and is based on the\u00a0same values.<\/p>\n

Wetland management in\u00a0the\u00a0Beskydy mountains<\/h3>\n

Long-term cooperation with the\u00a0\u010cSOP Salamandr organization, focused on the\u00a0protection and restoration of\u00a0the\u00a0Beskydy wetlands, is another example of\u00a0Radegast supporting biodiversity and water retention in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape. Wetlands mitigate the\u00a0effects of\u00a0drought and torrential rains and are a\u00a0refuge for a\u00a0diverse range of\u00a0plant and animal species.<\/span><\/p>\n

Campaign for water 2030<\/h3>\n

Radegast brewery needs around 570 million litres of water annually for beer production and its overall operations, and it is therefore supporting the development of new pools and river meanders to meet this commitment by 2030. It is also focusing on another key pillar of its commitment \u2013 supporting regenerative agriculture, which helps to improve the soil\u2019s ability to retain water and strengthen the overall resilience of the landscape to drought. The savings from individual water retention measures will be calculated by the T. G. Masaryk\u00a0<\/span>Water Research Institute as the\u00a0project\u2019s\u00a0guarantor, which will assess the\u00a0impact of\u00a0these projects according to its methodology and gradually quantify the\u00a0volume of\u00a0water retained in\u00a0the\u00a0landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n\"\"<\/a>\n

Radegast brewery will thus be the\u00a0first brewery in\u00a0the\u00a0Czech Republic and one of\u00a0the\u00a0first in\u00a0the\u00a0world to return water to the\u00a0landscape \u2013 where it belongs.<\/span><\/p>\n
